I'd suggest Mayor Danahey Park, near Fresh Pond, behind the shopping
complex/movie theaters. A better pointer might be start at Alewife,
head towards Fresh Pond Rotary, over a steel span bridge. There is a
shopping complex just before the rotary but you can't turn left legally.
So whip around the rotary, go into the complex, and head towards the
movie theatres. The park is right behind the movie theatre area...
There is another entrance on the other end of the park but directions
are trickier...

Maybe there should be a "where to fly" database of some sort. This
could have dates of events in certain locales. Of course I don't have
time to implement this, but if someone does have time...

Anyway, I'm going to expand the geographic area a bit from just
Boston. I would just reply, but I know that there are several lurkers
out there...

	- Danehy Park, Cambridge, MA. This can be a great place to
fly. It is slightly elevated and the wind can be smooth and
steady. There are two towers near by that can cause real
problems when the wind is blowing past them, but that
	  doesn't happen all that often.

The downside is that the soccer fields often have soccer
players on them and the baseball fields have baseball and
	  softball players on them.

	- Nahant beach, Nahant, MA. I've been flying there quite a bit
lately. There is a band of flyers who fly there in the
evenings and on the weekends. Usually good wind, and the
sand is packed pretty hard, so there is good footing.

But, this is a beach and when it gets really hot, it is
littered with bodies, which makes kite flying, especially
stunt kites, difficult and dangerous. It is also best to fly
	  when the tide is low.

	- Bose Mountain, Framingham, MA. This site won't be available
for too much longer. Bose has kindly allowed and encouraged
use of the unused land on the top of the hill for kite
flying. Unfortunately for kite flyers, Bose is building
here. Construction starts in the fall.

The grass/weeds/plants haven't been mowed recently so flying
	  can be challenging...

	- UMASS Boston, Boston Harbor, MA. Depending on which
direction the wind is blowing, this can be a great place to
fly. The fields are playing fields covered in nicely
maintained grass. This means that often people are playing
	  on the fields...

	- Race Point, Provincetown, MA. A trip to Cape Cod should
include a trip to Race Point. There used to be a kite
festival at Race Point, but it stopped happening when the
kite shop changed hands a few years ago.

	- Lars Anderson Park, Brookline, MA. While kite flying is
technically illegal in Brookline parks, I've never heard of
this being enforced. Depending on which direction the wind
is blowing, this can be a great place to fly, or a good
	  place. Great view of Boston.

	- UMASS Dartmouth, Dartmouth, MA. This is the site of the past
two BASKC. Flying can be excellant here, again depending on
	  the wind direction and weather.

Other, more distant locations, include, Hampton Beach NH, Plum Island
MA, Crane's Beach, Ipswich MA, UMASS Amherst, Colt State Park, Bristol
RI and Brenton Point, Newport RI. There are lots of flying sites in
Connecticut too...

Here, in California, as you well know, there are only two
or three places unsuitable for kite flying, and then only in
the winter, unless, of course, the wind is right. -:-)>
