The process of creating a new group, or reorganising an existing group (unless it's a local or alt. group) is a complex and time- consuming affair. I know because I've done it. You have to document what you want to do (a Request For Discussion), take a straw poll to indicate you've got support for it, produce a charter(s) and a CFV (Call For Votes), allow the matter to be discussed for at least 30 days in news.groups (where the world's news admins hang out - it's these guys you have to convince), hold a vote for 30 days, count the votes and then publish the result. Apart from the work involved, you have to persuade: a) the people on the group that they want to change b) the news admins around the world that your change follows the general guidelines of usenet and that it is a worthwhile thing to do, of general benefit, etc. c) ensure that the combined people of a) and b) vote in your favour (at least 2/3 of the vote and 100 more "yes" than "no") so that you can have the group created. In my opinion, this falls down because a) general opinion in the group seems to be against the idea b) news admins are unlikely to be favourable to a low bandwidth and relatively specialist group that doesn't have a very good reason to change. c) most people would vote against it because of a) and b) above. It's a no-goer as I see it and I would certainly vote against it. Anyway, I like to read about all kinds of kite things. Sure, I sometimes have to wade through stuff I don't care about, and I guess I might miss the odd post because I'm over zealous with the catchup key, but it's no big deal. If I had to read 5 different groups, no doubt compromising a high proportion of cross-posting, I would expect to miss a lot more. If anyone still wants to do it, I'll happily give guidance in writing an RFD (Request For Discussion) and if it gets that far, a Call For Votes (CFV). I would not recommend it as I think it will be a waste of time, but I am happy to help if only to end the matter fairly and in a way that cannot be questioned. I would, however, much rather spend my time flying a kite. A Andy Wardley is the man from abw@peritas.demon.co.uk. Thricefold decorated in the winky wars, he loves each and every one of you.
