I plan to attend WSIKF this year for the first time. I just received the Long Beach Visitor's Bureau package listing all the different places to stay. Since I have never been to this area before I am left guessing at which places are nice and which places are not. Could someone please recommend a good place for my family (3) to stay for the week which is moderately priced? Thanks in advance! In longbeach, this time of year... stay anyplace that has a room. As far as recomending a place? The whole damn area blows. The nicest places are The Shelbourne, and maybe the Super 8. Try to get a room. The Chataqua (I am short a few vowels on the name, but it is close enough...) is O.K. too. As for prices, a place that gets $40.00 a room years round will often charge $80.00 or more for that week. It is cheaper to go to Fano than to Longbeach, including air fare from the US. And whatever you do... avoid Milton York if you value your time. I have waited 20min there for a cup of coffee while listening to a waitress badmouth all those 'god damn kiteflyers'. The specialize in a quait backwards almost non-existant level of service that only a place that depends on toursist can provide. carl (I might show up on Saturday....) ___________________________________________________ email: crowell@kite.com FTP: ftp.teleport.com/pub/users/crowell WWW: http://www.teleport.com/~crowell Kites By Carl Crowell - O.S.F.M. If you are coming and can stay in a tent, or camper, stay at the city park at the boardwalk. Right smack on the action. They just increased the cost of a license for vendors but what looks like 200-300 percent, enough so that I may attend, but will not display. Bring plenty of wet weather gear as it can get nasty in Long Beach any time of year. Oh yeah, and one other thing I noticed, last weekend when I was there, for you WSIKF regulars, Long Beach has joined the real world now with the opening of their very own McDonalds restaurant. An older but well kept motel with kitchen units( our favorite). The Super 8 Motel is owned by The Owner of Ocean Kites, and is annually recognized as one of the "TOP 8" in the country. A very nice place to stay, with a kite shop in the parking lot, and the beach out the back door. There is also a way cool weather station in the lobby, with wind speeds etc. all plotted. If Long Beach is all booked by now, try Ilwaco. Heidis Inn looks pretty nice, and the Col Pacific was recommended by the visitors info shack lady. Hope that helps.
