Here is what I propose: 1. If you would like a rec.kites pin send me a short piece of email to let me know. 2. If I get enough replies to justify the effort I will have the first 100 pins made here in Canada, and sell them at cost + postage to anyone who can make the request via e-mail. If someone will be good enough to explain international reply coupons to me we can work out an efficient way of handling funds. 3. To find suitable artwork I suggest a contest. If you know any kiters/artists get them to draw up a pin and send it to me. Send a GIF via e-mail*, fax, or mail a hardcopy. The creator of the design selected will receive a normal pin, and one of a limited number with a special colour scheme. * - please, not too large a file as I get mail via modem for $. 4. Since it's my cash paying for the first run of pins I reserve the right to be arbitrary in selecting the design. However, if no one design stands out as exceptional I will post the top few candidates to the archives and seek the opinions of other rec.kiters. 5. Time is a factor. I will accept designs for consideration until the end of June. This way we can have pins in hand mid-July. 6. Simo's design guidelines make good sense as a starting point, but don't feel limited by them. We need as many good ideas as possible to make a truly great pin. > - at sign (@), the very essential character > in Internet addressing and rec.kites > communication. > (at sign is streched 200 423936n horizontal > dimension and forms an ellipse as the outline > of the pin). > > - map of world inside of the inner circle > of at sign - rec.kites wraps the whole world. > > - a diamond kite with tail; Diamond kite > is THE most recognisable (sp?) shape of > a kite. 7. I would like to honour a few rec.kites icons by offering them one of a handful of pins in a special colour scheme. If you had to pick the 10 people whom you though most deserving, who would they be? Let me know. Michael Graves phone (613) 967-0668 fax (613)967-0672 e-mail mgraves@leadingedg.win.net P.S. I get my email once a day, and only once a day. It's a budget thing y'see. (Unlike my parafoil, pins are off the ground :-) Secondly, IMHO I would like to see the best 3-4 available for FTP or if not too big then posted. This would allow us the chance to vote via E-mail. If this was done using the E-mail subject only (No msg body) eg Vote for pin A Vote for pin B Then it would be easy to count votes, and the total size of mail would be small. I might even be convinced to count votes, if you need the help. The wonders of a local (read free) phone call. In anticipation of buying a pin. I like the idea of only supplying to people who request by Email. Expect to hear from gomberg@aol.com any moment now :-) Andrew -- Yes Karen, some of us *do* care! Netiquette-of-the-day: Take care to attribute quotes correctly. You can FTP the kite FAQ's from ftp.hawaii.edu (directory /pub/rec/kites/faq) The FAQ's have lists of kites, kite stores, kite questions, kite books & plans. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Tue, 14 Jun 1994 12:49:09 -1000 From: mgraves@leadingedg.win.net (Michael Graves) Message-Id: <555@leadingedg.win.net> Subject: Re: Pins Pins Pins In article , Andrew Beattie (andrew@tug.com) writes: >I like the idea of only supplying to people who request by Email.
