After building two kites with the help of plans from the net (Higher aspect and Raaseri, many thanks to Dave Lord and Simo Salanne) I want to design my own kite. It has to be fassssssssssssssssssssssst and fly even in high winds (up to 8 Bft???) My question is what are the details I have to include in my plans to gain high speed? Hi Rolf, I know a few things on delta speed (I think): 1. Use a high aspect ratio, this means a large top angle; 2. Don't make the sail to deep, so limit the amount of space between the lower spreader and the trailing edge; 3. Use heavy duty materials, RCF strong fibers, kevlar reinforcement on all the critical areas. 4. If you haven't already: check out Dave Lord's design stuff. I designed a kite like that ^^^, check out my homepage for pictures, the design should appear sometime in the near future.... see you, Emiel Stroeve http://www.euronet.nl/users/mielse/index.html = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Thu, 23 Nov 1995 06:07:45 -1000 From: Denis Audette <77766556@callisto.si.usherb.ca> Message-Id: Organization: Division of Applied Sciences, Harvard University Subject: Re: How can I gain speed without end? Rolf, If you want a fast kite: - you should reduce the sail mass (cut the sail on the trailing edge, don't make a straight trailing edge). - You should also reduce the billow of the sail (go for a "flat" and "tight" sail. - Go for a straight leading edge. - Don't make your kite to bid. - Don't set your bridle to low. Have fun!!! You can also try to get the book of Peter Rieleit "Leistungsstarke Lenkdrachen" where he explains in the first two chapters how he developed really fast kites. They hold the current speed record; something above 115 mph. BTW, this is a very old record (~10 years), and thus predates most "fast" deltas.
