(1-800-827-6364) Subject: FAA Regs per Kites Alan - I see others have rspnd per FAA regs - all is correct with the addition of visible streamers every 100' of line (if I recall correctly) not to fly above 500' AGL. I found all of this out after a news helecopter took out a pretty big rig of mine last Memorial Day - we were flying 3 eight foot Delta Coyn's with 15 - fifty foot streamers at 15' intervals starting at about 100'. the kites were flying at about 350' - 400 AGL. We were flying on the Lake Michigan beach here in Chicago, and a news 'copter came down the beach at about 200' - probably looking at women sunbathing - anyway, he cut the kites loose and about half the streamers - the real moral of the story is 1) YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING RIGHT AND STILL KILL SOMEONE = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Mon, 6 Mar 1995 10:26:26 -1000 From: andrew@tug.com (Andrew Beattie) Message-Id: Organization: /usr/lib/news/organisation Subject: Re: FAA Regs per Kites drumurphy@aol.com (DruMurphy) writes: >[chopper hits kites at 400' altitude in 500' limit] Hmmm... Even if permission has been granted by the CAA (UK) to fly, say, up to 2000 feet, if an aircraft comes below this level it is up to the kite operator (even if he is flying 'responsibly') to avoid an accident if he can. > to sue the airline for the damage to the kite.
