(1-800-827-6364) Subject: Expert Feedback Sought I'm still looking for information on the Microkites and down subject. While several interested parties have responded to the sub-square inch kite building thread, I have yet to find anything concrete about the "state of the art" in small kites. I know the magazines (kitelines at least) refuses to acknowledge the existence of this part of the hobby, preferring to recognize only the well funded "big kite" record attempts. Here's your chance to share what you've done or seen. I have publicly flown among members of the Minnesota Kite Society 1sq.in., 1/2 sq.in., 1/4 sq.in., and 1/8 sq.in. diamonds and other shapes(hearts are popular). I have submitted the 1 sq. in. kites to the IFOSK. I'd appreciate any feedback the rec.kites experts could provide from their kiting experience and travels. Valerie Govig was in attendance at the Worlds Smallest Kite Festival in Colorado last year, and it did get mentioned in the magazine. We have also featured the antics of Harm Van Veen and Charlie Sotich (sp? Sorry Charlie!) from time to time, amongst others. It's a wide world of kiting out there, and we try to cover all of it as well as we can. I'll watch my wordsmithing more closely. I know Val has explained to me that kitelines does not recognize any small kite related records, claims, etc. That is an editorial choice. The big, high, long, fast, most, etc. are recognized and thus documented for all kiters to follow. Even Guiness picks up these and thus documents the " state of the art " in these specialized areas of the hobby. I am a member of the IFOSK (??if it still exists??), and have shared communication with Harm V. as well as having attended small kite building classes by Charlie S. But I still do not have a good feel for what the "state of the small-kite art" is. While the big kites count the square feet, etc. I find no similar record of the small kite world. So my request to you and ALL OTHER KITERS that might be more travelled than I is for any info regarding the small kite world you've seen. I figured I'd get some contact via rec.kites, and maybe some will give me added direction and more sources of info. I guess it would take a Nut >From Minnesota to ask such a question... So please pass on any such info you may have! "Every day is a good kiting day, as long as you remember to put one in your pocket."
