Welp, another year at Daytona! Weather....couldn't possibly been much better! No rain, plenty of sunshine, variable winds, plenty of fliers. Another great year! Attendance was a little less I think than last year, but the sky was filled with an excellent display. Many thanks to Dean Jordan, Dodd Gross, Tom Mason, Mike Simmons, Terry ??? ( aww, what's that guys name), and others I don't know, or have never met, who made this a success! In this fliers opinion, this is a must attend event. We even had the pleasure of your highness David Gomberg! We must be moving up in the world. This year, we did have competition events. NIP, IIP, IIB, and OQB had ther say in their own little area. Had some pretty good fliers there. Thought i'd be able to fly my patchwork ZDX featherlite (show-off), but the wind was a little strong, so had to fly Reed's ZDX standard patchwork. ( yeah, I do love those patchworks). Got a chance to fly the new Decca (courtesy of Curtis. Thanks Curtis!). Nice quadline, very innovative design, sharp, exciting. Only one sour note I observed. Buggies were outlawed on the beach. Imagine! Outlawed! Wednesday, and thursday, before the festival began, Dead, Dodd, and I believe Curtis did their buggy thang. Friday buggy thang started as usual, but this time the local constable kept their watchful eye, and politly informed those responsible that there is an ordinance prohibiting air powered vehicles on public roadways. Imagine! Yes Daytona Beach is a public roadway, has been for many years. One of the only beaches that allowes vehicles. But not to allow Air powered vehicles! Ridiculous!! Guess this must be a conspiracy between our local gov't. and the EPA. Keep environmental friendly vehicles outlawed! Keeps us in business! Mabye there's more to it. Like, "What the hell's that contraption. Get it outta' here" Well, that's the law. Got yer work cut out for you for next year eh Dean? Yurs truly did manage to find himself, his patchwork featherlite ZDX (Reed Richard's design) in the Orlando papers on friday. Didn't catch the local TV news, but there was a pretty fair contingent of cameras, and reporters on hand to publisize the event locally. Should of got the pic. of the lady reporter screaming and running for her life when Mike's Flowform lost wind, and gave her a lip lock! Great stuff! Hey Dean! Next year I want one of those four wheeled buggies to ride around on!! Well there's probebly much more about the festival I missed, so i'll quit blabbering and let someone else report. I enjoyed it and DEFINANTLY will be back next year. Loved it, love it, and want more of it. rick = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
