Once again I had the great pleasure to fly kites, teach, and introduce to the wonderful people of Colombia our sport. I was supprised to find on this latest excursion a more open mindedness about sport kiting. I went with a full bag of kites and came back with no bag at all! This time I was involved with helping the planning of the huge International Kite Festival in August (which I will not be able to attend). 50 kite flyers from around the world will be invited and WOW, you flyers lucky enough to go will really be busy. 21 days of traveling around the country side of Colombia. I just traveled this same route in 12 days, but by Jeep. The tentitive plans is to charter a plane, but remember this is Colombia. You might have a plane, a bus, or donkeys, nothing is ever written in stone, that's the fun of it! After flying my kite in the oldest city and square in Colombia, Village de Leva (or somthing like that) and traveling the most interesting roads I have ever seen, and not to mention avoiding the guirillas (the ones with weapons not bannanas)like the plague, I ended up in a small city called Bucaramanga. (say that 3 times el rapipdo). Here I found a whole new Colombia. Country Clubs, every one had belt and car phones, 2 cars, and with all that money, they still had the best attitudes and were very nice loving people. Soon,(if I can help it) buggying and yes, even boat buggying along with a huge growth in sport kiting will come about, and I am very proud to be apart of it.
