Featured instructors will be Genny and Eric Forsberg, well known and respected organizers and Judges of other Western League events including the Northwest Stunt Kite Championship (formerly Northwest Regional Stunt Kite Championship), and the North Coast Challenge, and AKA Grand Nationals at Seaside, Oregon. The workshop is intended for all competition staff including head judges, judges, line judges, field and pit bosses, scoring personnel, and other volunteers. Classroom sessions are planned from 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, with extensive information, tips, guidelines, hand-outs, and hands-on experience. On-the-beach practice sessions are planned for Sunday. A potluck dinner and raffle will be held Sat. evening at 6:30 PM. Bring a dish for the potluck and a donation for the raffle. Raffle proceeds will help defray costs of the workshop, which is free unless you would like to make any cash contributions. (Ask the organizers if they're breaking even yet. -editor-) In conjunction with the workshop, the Skypainters will also be holding a kite swap-meet. Swap-meet entry costs just $1.00, participants by donation. Bring some of those hundreds of kites you never fly and make some bucks to buy more! I should have mentioned that the Western Sport Kite League plans to hold several more judging workshops at League events in the spring. The first judging workshop, held at the WSSKC on Whidbey Island in Washington State, USA, was taught by Kathy Goodwind, Mike Benedict, and Dave Sweet. About 35 attended this short, 2 hour session and everyone was happy with the knowlege they gained. Judging and field crew training and certification is one of the major goals that the board of the Western Sport Kite League has set to accomplish. The other major current gaols of the Western League is to provide recognition and awards to top Western League fliers and to promote and help facilitate sport kite competition.
