Charlie, I believe the winner was Randy Tom and his Disney character arch ribbon. This is truely a magnificant piece for kids from three to a hundred and three. As John reported, Randy Tom's Disney arch was the People's Choice (voted on by members present at the convention). The Grand Champion (selected by judges from among category winners) was Stretch Tucker with his white tiger parafoil. It too was a wonder to behold. The interesting thing about this kite is that it belongs to Susan Thonstad out here in Oregon. Stretch BORROWED it back to enter in competition. I think he was quite startled by the honor -- and of course, Susan was happy too to be the owner of a winner. Randy has won before - and deserved it. This is Stretch's first time for a top prize. About time. Well, what do you expect for a sled kite that I just built with no intention of it being a serious competitor? After all, I built the series for the heck of it and so I thought I would fly one there just to have something to fly in another KM cat. But I am glad that it got shifted categories, which made an official field for Soft or Flexible thus allowing Stretch to do so well. :-) Steve PS: The one I really liked, my Razorback Box got pummelled by the winds and broke before cellular got started. :-( Oh well, next year! *************************************************** * I'm not a participant in any organized hobby... * * I'm a kiteflier! * ******************** aoxomoxoa ******************** http://server1.admin.gatech.edu/fac/steve/kiting/kiting.htm = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Mon, 30 Oct 1995 10:16:25 -1000 From: sc5@prism.gatech.edu (SPC) Message-Id: <473bqp$o9l@acmew.gatech.edu> Organization: Georgia Institute of Technology Subject: Re: Tulsa Kite Making Winners In article <470e27$cj0@pa.mother.com>, John A. Mauricio, Thanks for sending me this letter. LaDonna is correct, she made and entered the kite which won second place in the soft or flexible catagory. This error was brought to Jon's attention at the awards banquet and LaDonna was awarded the trophy. Evidently the official score sheet was never corrected.
