To my suprise both kites locked and flew like a normal stack. Is this a new idea or have people done it before? For those of you who haven't seen it, this is what you do. Stack the delta behind the flexi with a gap of about four feet. Apparently it doesn't work with the flexi behind the delta. -- Matt ___________________________________ Cheshire = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Sun, 29 Oct 1995 23:45:04 -1000 From: tom@minster.cs.york.ac.uk (Tom Jackson) Message-Id: <815046304.15845@minster.york.ac.uk> Organization: Department of Computer Science, University of York, England Subject: Re: Stacking a flexi with a delta Matthew Hurrell (Matt@hurrell.demon.co.uk) wrote: : Today whilst flying I saw somesome stack a 6 foot flexifoil together : with a Club Sport. I'm sure I wasn't the first! I too was surprised at how well if flies. I stacked a Comp Edge with a 10' Flexi. It slowed the flexi up of course, but it also gave a lot of pull. cheers, tom. ps how's the Sputnik going? = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Tue, 31 Oct 1995 07:35:18 -1000 From: lord@eskimo.com (David Lord) Message-Id: Organization: Eskimo North (206) For-Ever Subject: Re: Stacking a flexi with a delta In article <815046304.15845@minster.york.ac.uk> tom@minster.york.ac.uk (Tom Jackson) writes: >Xref: eskimo rec.kites:20789 >Path: >eskimo!guysmiley.blarg.com!wisdom.connectsoft.net!uunet!in1.uu.net!newsfeed.inte >rnetmci.com!howland.reston.ans.net!plug.news.pipex.net!pipex!tank.news.pipex.net >!pipex!dispatch.news.demon.net!demon!sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk!cs.york.ac.uk!tom >From: tom@minster.york.ac.uk (Tom Jackson) >Newsgroups: rec.kites >Subject: Re: Stacking a flexi with a delta >Message-ID: <815046304.15845@minster.york.ac.uk> >Date: 30 Oct 1995 09:45:04 GMT >References: <11683435wnr@hurrell.demon.co.uk> >Organization: Department of Computer Science, University of York, England >Lines: 19 >X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] >Matthew Hurrell (Matt@hurrell.demon.co.uk) wrote: >: Today whilst flying I saw somesome stack a 6 foot flexifoil together >: with a Club Sport. One really needs a large kite that has a greater separation of the bridle points. A Hawiian Team Kite works well with a four foot flexi but for larger flexis they get squashed unless there is a large distance between the two kites. I used a 13 foot wingspan stunter with some six foot flexis for light wind flying and it always worked very well. The delta stunter provided good turning and the flexis provided lift. At one time I tried stacking flexis in front of a quadrifoil with the idea of adding more as the wind changed so that I could cover a large wind range for buggying. Alas, one flexi in front of the quadrifoil worked quite well, but the oscillations one gets when launching a stack of flexis always caused a tangle with the brake lines on the quadrifoil and I was never able to get a successful launch. The Sputnik is a soft kite, not a delta, but the effect was poor, the differing turning speeds caused problems. I imagine that it would work better with a faster delta, the Sputnik just could not keep up with the flexis.
