In a recent posting, Dean Hines said that he couldn't believe that the stunt kite pilots were so chensy (sp) as to not pay their open balances. I'd like to make it clear that _subscriptions_ were not the problem. Face it; with our systems, if you didn't renew your subscription, you didn't get a magazine. With the exception of a few who slipped through the cracks, this was almost always the case. The people with the accounts receivable balances were: a) Advertisers, who would ask us to run color or b&w ads, and then wouldn't make good on their bills after 30 days...after 60 days...after 90 days... and some have been on the books for years! b) Retail shops, who would order 40, 70, 100+ magazines, and then not pay for the order. There's a simple tenet in business that you have to take more money in than you spend...that didn't seem to be the case, here. Just wanted to clear that up... After I had posted my mostly knee-jerk feelings, I did realize that the magazine's primary income was probably advertizing (silly of me)... I appologize to anyone who may have been offended. Kiters tend to be really fine people by nature (at least in my experience), and I should have more faith in them. On the other hand, anyone who slipped through the cracks... shame on you. So, I would now redirect my anger and disappointment at the retailers and the manufacturers who had outstanding accounts. I would be in favor of some pressure being put on those parties who have now taken a precious resource away from us. I realize that we can not ask for their names directly, but I do think (and agree with another post... sorry, don't remember who it was at the moment) that perhaps letters of disapproval from us could be directed to those parties. I think it's a shame for bad business practices to leak into the kiting world (I guess there is no safe haven from that sort of thing... even in Kiting). Again, Thanks to Bob for his posts, and for his contributions to SKQ, and to the Batdorfs for SKQ in the first place. Dean -- Q \ | Dean C.
