Those with no patience skip to next message. Can any type of fishing line be used for serious stuntkites? i.e., mono filament kevlar based 5tretch fishing line. Just wondering. Why or why not? However, most people prefer using lower stretch Kevlar, Spectra, or Dyneema. Kevlar isn't used much since it is abrasive (cuts through other lines easily) and deteriorates with exposure to UV light. Spectra and Dyneema are both used extensively. A few companies make Spectra and/or Dyneema fishing lines. There is no reason that you can't use these lines for flying stunt kites. In fact, I've got a two spools of Spectra fishing line that I make short lines out of. I have had no problems with using this line. Fishing line with breaking strength over about 135 pound is usually difficult to find. This is the only down side to using fishing line for flying kites. -- Marty Sasaki Harvard University Sasaki Kite Fabrications sasaki@noc.harvard.edu Network Services Division 26 Green Street 617-496-4320 10 Ware Street Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 Cambridge, MA 02138-4002 phone/fax: 617-522-8546 = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
