I think one of the member of this expedition is Bernard Voyer from Knowlton, Quebec. They are using a "TRACTION" wich is a quad-line kite made by "CONCEPT AIR" a small kite manufacturer from St-Fulgence, Quebec. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Fri, 10 Nov 1995 03:16:18 -1000 From: "Denis Audette 77766556@callisto.si.usherb.ca" <77766556@callisto.si.usherb.ca> Message-Id: Organization: Division of Applied Sciences, Harvard University Subject: Kite-skiing to the South Pole Bernard Voyer from Knowlton Quebec is kite-skiing to the South Pole since 11/07/95. I just received some mail this morning from Eivind Hiorth Oppegaard telling me about the project and asking for some info on other designs. He gave me this URL: http://Nettvik.no/ousland Have at it. He said there is 5 different expeditions to the South Pole: a British, a Norvegian, a Russian, a Polish, and Bernard Voyer from Knowlton Quebec. Bernard met the other guys in Chile, he took a plane with them, but all of them are on a differente route to the Pole. Bernard Voyer is now at 78 45' 23" south and 49 25' 28" west, the Norvegian and the British are at 1000 km. and 300 km. from him. I don't know where are the Russian and the Polish. Bernard said it's not a race, it's just a trip. Some people go to Florida, they just go a little bit further south. There was a snow storm today, the wind blow at 70 km/hrs and it's a little bit cold (-11 C inside the tent, -30 C during the night). Bernard is pulling a 170 kilo sled and he said it's quite heavy. The first day he did only 3 km., yesterday he did 12,5 km. Bernard did not talk about is kite, I don't know how he's doing, but I don't think he will use is "Traction" in a 70 km/hrs wind. I don't know if the other guys are using a kite, it seems that the Brithis or/and the Norvegian are using a "Spider" but I really don't know about the other expedition. Do somebody have some information about that??? Merci beaucoup Francois, Navigating in "la langue the Moliere" won't be a problem for me. If somebody knows where are the other guys (the Brithish, the Norvegian, The Polish and the Russian)? If they all use a kite? Do they have trouble with there kite?.... I would like to have more information about there trip to the South Pole. If they have an adress i would like to know it. But I hope I wont have to navigate in.... the russian, the norvegian, or polish language. Francois, Merci encore pour l'information, si tu as d'autres nouvelles tu sais ou me trouver. Have fun!!! As of November 17th, Borge's reported position showed him to have covered 232 kilometres since setting off on November 7 while Roger Mear has covered some 168 kilometres since his start on November 3. However, Roger is ahead of schedule and having taken a difficult route to start with, he is now expecting to make faster progress and will be able to use his Spider Modulus parafoil system, a type of kite, to increase his speed. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ --------- = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
