Subject: Has anyone got any SkyBond Still??? Hi Folks, I'm looking for some 150# Skybond for train lines for the back of my Rev stack. Shanti doesn't carry/make it any more. I want Skybond for its durability factor. Does anybody have any other suggestions? Right now I'm using 300# all the way back, and I want to lighten up that back end. There are 6 kites in the stack right now, and 2 to 4 to be added soon. Thanks in advance. The unequal stretch characteristics of the Kevlar and the Dacron mean that it will usually break far below the rated strength. >Does anybody have any other suggestions? For short trains, most of the folks around here use dacron. It is easy to knot, is fairly durable and doesn't stretch a lot. For longer trains, the folks around here use Kevlar. It's a lot more work to set up a stack using Kevlar, but the lack of stretch makes a big difference on long trains. -- Marty Sasaki Harvard University Sasaki Kite Fabrications sasaki@noc.harvard.edu Network Services Division 26 Green Street 617-496-4320 10 Ware Street Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 Cambridge, MA 02138-4002 phone/fax: 617-522-8546 = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1993 12:16:58 -1000 From: steveth@netcom.com (Steve Thomas) Message-Id: Organization: VisionAire, San Francisco, CA Subject: Re: Has anyone got any SkyBond Still??? Don't use SkyBond, just use #200 Kevlar. It looked like a nice line. It had better characteristics than Skybound, it could be tied, and it didn't seem to suffer many problems due to the difference in stretch in the material. The problem with it was that it frayed easily and would sort of fuzz up after a little bit of rubbing. This might have been solved, I played around with a very early sample. I don't know whether US Line is manufacturing it anymore. -- Marty Sasaki Harvard University Sasaki Kite Fabrications sasaki@noc.harvard.edu Network Services Division 26 Green Street 617-496-4320 10 Ware Street Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 Cambridge, MA 02138-4002 phone/fax: 617-522-8546 = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
