I unfortunately had to leave before the end, so this report is not complete - can anyone else fill in the gaps for me please ? The day started with an individual competition. This built on last year's ballet competetion, and this year included four compulsory precision figures as well as a ballet routine. One of the figures was a 360 tip drag, and competitors soon realised that there were a couple of spots on the (mostly smooth) floor which reached out to grab the tip and launch the kite back into the air. Kites used included the Millenium, Phantom Elite UL, Sandpiper UL and some I didn't recognise used by the (excellent) Belgian competitors. Paul Hankin also had a prototype indoor MEFM (called a Micro-M ?), freshly received from Big Easy, but didn't use it in competition as he hadn't had enough time to familiarise himself with it. Several world record attempts were made. On the Saturday, Carl Robertshaw successfully broke Chris Matheson's 2-line record, setting a new record of 2hrs and 13(?) mins. On the Sunday, the previous single-line record of 45 mins (? - I thought this was longer, but this record was set with a single-line delta) was broken by someone whose name escapes me, setting a new record of over 2 hrs. Also, an attempt was made on Dave Brittain's 4-line record, and this was still going when I left. Dave Brittain was at the festival also, and put on some impressive Rev demos, including a stack of 5 Rev IIs, and also unicycling while flying a Rev II ! The Decorators also put on some good quad demos. Carl Robertshaw impressed the audience by doing some 360s with a huge (10m ?) Peel, but was rather embarassed when he got carried away and caught the kite on one of the ceiling fittings. There were some very worried faces (no doubt thinking of how much the kite was worth) as the struggled to free it. The TV cameras were present, and on Sunday night there was a short (2 minute) slot on local BBC1 news, featuring Dave Brittain and a few of the other flyers. All in all, it was an enjoyable day, and I wished I could have stayed longer. However, the 5 ProSpeed+ flexis in a stack went well, with 15 people managing to jump between the kites in one continious sequence. Dave Brittain, of course, jumped through in the same direction as the kites, instead of against the direction as everyone else was doing! Aircraft tried a four-man display, which was very entertaining, mostly because, as they freely admit, they haven't done much indoor flying, even individually! -- _____ ceci n'est ____ _ pas une _ _ email (__ __) o ______ ( __)( )_ ___ ___ _( )_( )_ ___ ______ (____) (_)(_)()(_) (____)(_)_)(__=)(__=) (_)_(_)_)(___)_(_)()(_) -jim cheetham, DCH Consultancy. http://user.itl.net/~wumpus +44 1481 34068 (24H) +44 1344 472537 (UK day) = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Wed, 11 Oct 1995 02:57:49 -1000 From: swslomas Message-Id: <45gf0d$5dg@susscsc1.rdg.ac.uk> Organization: University of Reading Subject: Re: Docklands Indoor Festival Report Andy Wardley wrote: >Steve Hammatt writes: >[...] >>Also, an attempt was made on Dave Brittain's >>4-line record, and this was still going when I left. > >'Twas broken.
